What Do Drug Abuse and Drug Addiction Mean?There are two types of drug abuse and these are drug addiction and drug dependency. When you look at these terms, it makes it seem like they are just like other terms used to refer to psychiatric disorders such as attention deficit disorder or depression. Well, that's not the case at all. It's important to learn about these terms because they have been used for a long time.With respect to addiction, it is best to understand what a physical dependence is before we move on to discuss what drugs do to a person who has a physical dependence. Drug abuse occurs when an individual is dependent on a drug to get a particular effect or for a prolonged period of time. We have all heard the person that gets hooked on the 'bath salts'speed' and get addicted to it in order to experience the high that they get from it.Unfortunately, this type of drug abuse is becoming more prevalent because of the increased availability of these substances. These drugs have become very popular among college-age teens who use them to get drunk without being drunk. This is considered by many to be a safe and pleasurable way to get a buzz without getting any blunted effects. Drug abuse should be treated as a serious medical condition. It is best to be educated with the terms used to describe the condition so that you understand what the difference is between a medical term and one that refers to a psychiatric disorder. It's unfortunate that we don't have all the proper information available to educate ourselves about all the different types of disorders.If you feel that you are an addict of drugs or perhaps if you know someone that is an addict, then you should understand what drug abuse is and the effects it has on the body.
